Living a healthy lifestyle is important for all.
Top Ten Tips for Healthy Living
1. Don’t smoke and avoid breathing other people’s tobacco smoke.
2. Eat at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables each day and cut down on fat, salt and added sugar.
3. Be physically active:
For adults - at least 30 minutes, 5 days a week
For children & young people – at least 1 hour a day
4. Main, or aim for, a healthy weight.
5. If you drink alcohol have no more than:
2-3 Units for women
3-4 Units for men
(And remember that…1 pint of ordinary strength lager = 2 units
1 175ml glass of wine = 2 units)
6. Protect yourself from the sun – cover up, keep in the shade, never let yourself burn and use at least factor 15 sunscreen. Children should take extra protection and use a higher factor sunscreen (ask your pharmacist for advice).
7. Practice safer sex – use a condom.
8. Go for cancer screening when invited to do so.
9. THINK safety – especially on or near road.
10. Manage stress levels – talking about how you feel, relaxing and physical activity can all help.
And remember – It’s your health so be responsible for it – help look after yourself!
